The 53-foot trailer that carries The Wall opens into a Mobile Education Center with exhibits telling the story of the Vietnam War and The Wall — including a display of items representative of those left at The Wall in Washington, D.C., plus the digital Hometown Heroes and In Memory Honor Roll displays.

The Wall is open 24 hours a day for the entire visit — with one important exception: it closes at 2:00 PM on the final day, when disassembly begins immediately.

Yes. Visitors are welcome to leave mementos, just as they do at the Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Yes. Visitors may make rubbings of individual service members' names, and volunteers on site can help.

Paper directories and an on-site kiosk let you look up any name and find its panel and line location. Volunteers are there to assist. You can also search ahead of time at VVMF's Wall of Faces on vvmf.org.

Nearly 200 volunteers are needed across setup, teardown, and around-the-clock shifts at The Wall. A public signup with every open shift will be linked on our Volunteer page once it opens.

Absolutely. Organizations, businesses, teams, families, and friends are welcome to sign up for shifts together.

Use the request form on our Group Tours page. Tours are led by VVMF staff and are free for schools, veterans organizations, churches, and community groups.

The escort rides Tuesday, September 22, 2026. Riders gather at 11:30 AM at the Walmart Supercenter in Cobleskill (139 Merchant Pl, off I-88 Exit 22), with kickstands up at 12:00 PM.
